How Chartering a Yacht Works

01

Discover & Shortlist

Tell us your destination, dates, group size, and style. We curate a shortlist of charter yachts that fit your itinerary and budget, with full specs, rates, and crew profiles.

02

Contract & Plan

Once you choose your yacht, we handle the MYBA charter agreement, deposit, and itinerary planning. Your crew begins preparing for your group's preferences.

03

Preference Sheet

Share food, drink, activity, and onboard preferences with the chef and captain. The crew tailors every detail of provisioning, dining, and water toys to your group.

04

Embark & Enjoy

Step aboard and into a fully-staffed luxury vacation. Your captain optimizes the route based on weather and your wishes — the crew handles everything else.

Our charter team has placed clients on hundreds of yachts across the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, New England, and beyond. Learn more about chartering with Moran or contact us to start planning your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Charter rates vary widely by yacht size, age, and destination. Pre-owned 80–100ft motor yachts typically charter from around $40,000 to $80,000 per week. Yachts in the 130–180ft range usually fall between $150,000 and $400,000 per week. Top-tier 200ft+ superyachts can exceed $1 million per week. Rates exclude APA (typically 25–30%), fuel, dockage, and crew gratuity. Our charter team can match your budget to the right yacht.

APA stands for Advance Provisioning Allowance — typically 25 to 30 percent of the base charter rate, paid in advance to cover operational expenses like fuel, food, beverages, dockage, port fees, and provisioning to your preferences. The captain accounts for every expense and refunds any unused balance at the end of the charter. APA is standard on most MYBA contracts.

For peak Mediterranean weeks (mid-July through late August) and Caribbean holiday weeks (Christmas, New Year), booking 9–12 months in advance is recommended for the best selection. Shoulder seasons offer more flexibility and frequently better rates. Contact us to check availability for your dates.

The base charter rate includes the yacht, its full-time professional crew, basic insurance, and use of all onboard equipment and water toys. Excluded items billed via APA are food, beverages, fuel, dockage, port fees, water, communications, and any special requests. Crew gratuity (5–15% of the base rate) is customary and paid at the end of the charter.

Most luxury yachts are available for weekly charters only, though some offer 3–4 day mini-charters during shoulder seasons. Day charters on the larger 100ft+ yachts are uncommon and priced as a full day-rate. For day or weekend outings, we can match you with smaller specialty vessels.

Yes — many of our buyers first charter a yacht before purchasing. It is the best way to truly understand how a yacht performs, how the layout works for your group, and what level of size and crew you actually want to own. As a full-service brokerage, Moran Yacht & Ship handles both sales and charter seamlessly under one roof.
