GENE MACHINE — 180' Amels Superyacht for Sale
GENE MACHINE is the fourth hull in the Amels Limited Edition 180 series, one of the most successful semi-custom superyacht platforms ever produced by the renowned Dutch shipyard. Delivered in 2013 with exterior styling by Tim Heywood and a steel hull with aluminum superstructure, she is Polar Code compliant and has proven it: GENE MACHINE has voyaged to both the North Pole and Antarctica, completed a full circumnavigation of the globe in 2023 alongside her support vessel GENE CHASER, and holds the distinction of having traveled farther north than any other privately owned yacht. Her 10-year Lloyd's survey was completed during a 2023 shipyard period that included multiple mechanical upgrades, and she has been maintained in immaculate condition by a long-standing, highly professional crew of 16. Twin MTU 16V 2000 M70 engines deliver a top speed of 15.5 knots and a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at 13 knots.
Her interior, by Zurich-based landscape architect Enzo Enea, in collaboration with Focus Yacht Design, is widely considered one of the most distinctive in the Amels fleet. Enea brought an outsider's eye to yacht design, blending natural and man-made materials in a way that feels more like a contemporary residence than a traditional superyacht interior. Five staterooms accommodate up to 14 guests, anchored by a full-beam master suite, with four guest doubles each fitted with a Pullman berth. On the sun deck, a protected lounge with a full bar offers panoramic views, while a jacuzzi, helipad, beach club, and swimming platform round out the outdoor spaces. The beach club features a tile mosaic inspired by the underwater scenes of the film Finding Nemo, a detail that speaks to the personality this yacht carries.
GENE MACHINE is a multi-award-winning vessel, recognized at the Asia Boating Awards 2014 and the La Belle Classe Explorer Awards for her contributions to science and exploration under the ownership of Dr. Jonathan Rothberg, the biotech entrepreneur and genomics pioneer. GENE MACHINE is currently in Miami, Florida, and available for inspection.
