KORU is a 164' (49.9m) Feadship superyacht with a pedigree few vessels in her price range can match. Originally launched in 1983 as Azteca from Feadship's Aalsmeer yard, she was commissioned by Mexican media mogul Emilio Azcárraga and designed inside and out by Jon Bannenberg, one of the most influential yacht designers in history. Her aluminum hull and superstructure ride on a semi-displacement platform with twin MTU engines delivering a 17-knot top speed and 14-knot cruising speed. Bannenberg's design was genuinely ahead of its era: a glass-roofed solarium on the top deck and a forward-facing observation saloon that set precedents across the superyacht industry in the 1980s. The design's influence extended directly to Azcárraga's later 74.5-meter Blohm + Voss build, underscoring just how forward-thinking this hull was at conception.
Between 2022 and 2024, KORU underwent a comprehensive two-year rebuild at Aykin Marina & Shipyard in Turkey, which was managed by Ocean Technical. The scope was extensive: a 3.2-meter stern extension that added both usable space and visual proportion, an entirely new sundeck, a new transom, fresh teak decking throughout, and a striking navy hull with white detailing that sharpens Bannenberg's angular lines in a way the original white livery never did. The interior was fully overhauled, with the original television lounge converted into a fifth guest stateroom, bringing capacity to 10 guests across five cabins served by a crew of nine. On the technical side, the main engines were overhauled, navigation systems updated, and Starlink connectivity added for seamless remote communications. Mechanical and electrical systems were extensively serviced as part of the same program.
What makes KORU unusual in today's market is the combination she represents: a 50-meter Feadship with a Bannenberg design provenance, freshly rebuilt with modern systems and a contemporary exterior, at 435 GT. Currently located in Valletta, Malta, KORU boasts the build quality, proportions, and design heritage of a Dutch custom superyacht, enhanced by a recent comprehensive overhaul. For a buyer who values craftsmanship and history alongside modern functionality, KORU is a rare find at this size.
