GENE CHASER — 182' Damen Yachting Superyacht for Sale

GENE CHASER is a 2020 Damen Yachting YS 5009 Yacht Support vessel and one of the most proven platforms of her kind afloat. Built on Damen's Sea Axe hull, developed in collaboration with Delft University of Technology, she delivers the kind of sea-keeping that lets her maintain speed in conditions where conventional bows force you to throttle back. Four Caterpillar 3512C engines produce a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots, with a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. In 2023, she logged over 38,000 nautical miles alongside her mothership GENE MACHINE, making her the most-traveled vessel of that year according to Boat Pro. The pair completed a full circumnavigation of the globe. She won the World Superyacht Award in 2022 for best semi-displacement motor yacht 40 meters and above.

Her 225-square-meter aft deck is the operational heart of the vessel, equipped with a 13-tonne knuckle-boom crane capable of deploying tenders, submersibles, and mission-specific equipment. She currently carries a Fjord 42, an OXpro AL8 landing craft, jet skis, and a fleet of additional toys, with a main deck hangar that doubles as a vehicle garage for ATVs and motorcycles. A helipad adds further reach. The current configuration includes a fully equipped wet and dry research laboratory, conference spaces, and accommodations for eight guests in four cabins alongside seven crew. Under her current ownership by Dr. Jonathan Rothberg, the renowned biotech entrepreneur and genomics pioneer, she has served as a dedicated floating science platform. That said, her modular layout is designed to be reconfigured; the laboratory and conference spaces can be converted back to conventional superyacht use, additional guest cabins, or specialized expedition outfitting.

For a buyer seeking a near-new, award-winning support vessel with a shallow 2.7-meter draft, global range, and the operational flexibility to serve as a shadow yacht, standalone explorer, or purpose-built expedition platform, GENE CHASER represents a rare opportunity. She is only five years old, built to commercial standards on one of the most successful support vessel platforms ever produced, and she has already proven herself around the world. GENE CHASER is currently in Miami, Florida, and available for inspection.
